The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft has revealed Walter Smith was a big fan of his music.
The frontman shared that the legendary former Rangers manager attended many of his concerts before his passing.
Ashcroft told talkSport: “Walter Smith came to a number of my gigs in the last few years of his life, and he really enjoyed it.
“When I was being a bit crazy on BBC Breakfast one morning, Walter had just had an operation and he was coming out of anaesthetic.

“He looked up at the TV and I was jumping over the couch on the TV.
“He rang my manager and went, ‘Tell Richard he’s Gazza [Paul Gascoigne], he’s got the genius of Gazza in him type thing’.”
“Walter was a surprising one.
“You wouldn’t think Walter at that age would be that into it but he was, he was bang into it.”
Smith sadly passed away aged 73 in 2021.
